QUOTES

Even in medicine, though it is easy to know what honey, wine and hellebore, cautery and surgery are, to know how and to whom and when to apply them so as to effect a cure is no less an undertaking than to be a [veterinarian].

Aristotle, 384-322 BC

Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death and stuff.

Mariah Carey, CPB (crazy psycho bitch)

Keep your wits about you.

Dr. Wally Cash, DVM

Work twice as hard and expect half as much.

Dr. Dan's Dad, both DVMs

Don't be screwin' around, you don't have the genetic potential.

What Dr. Dan's Dad said to Dr. Dan when he went to college.

I'd rather have a terrorist standing next to me than a Frenchman. (~15 min. later) Oh, I forgot about that, that's another reason I don't like the French, they eat horses.

Dr. Dee Griffin, DVM

In the book of life there's only two women, big ol' good ones and good ol' big ones.

Ice Cube, HipHopper

A virus can be useful to a species by thinning it out.

Dr. Karl Johnson, MD

Be a virus and travel the World! Free of ticket!

Dr. Sanjay Kapil, DVM

Now you can either stand around here eatin' jambalaya or you can come upstairs and eat my ass!

Brian Kinney, QAF Hottie!

I'm a McGriddle away from this being the best morning of my life.

Artie Lang, OCCG (overweight comedian, compulsive gambler)

Our scars have the power to remind us that the past was real.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter, CFB

No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation with detail.

Marion Levy Jr, PhD

It's better to burp and bear the shame than not to burp and bear the pain.

Grandpa Martin, RIP

Well, I want to try everything in life.

When I gotta poop, I gotta poop.

Heather Rose Martin, CFG (crazy freak girl)

It gets right ugly.

Dr. Patricia A. Payne, DVM

If the present sucks, then look to the future.

I'm just here to be a person.

Rob Reed, Brainiac

If you eat your dog, make sure it is well cooked.

Peter Schantz, DVM Division of Parasitic Diseases CDC

Inch by inch life's a cinch, yard by yard life gets hard.

Dr. Steve Swaim, DVM

Think about it. Sometimes people are just destined, destined to do, what they do. And that's what it is. Now everybody dance.

Justin Timberlake, Hottie!

I would've been off duty at 3pm

But a colic came in at 2pm and we took it to surgery. I didn't get home until about 9pm, I had been there since 8am. It wasn't too scary. I really like Dr. Lillich. He makes me feel comfortable with what I'm doing and doesn't make me feel like a dumbass. I still feel like one but he doesn't contribute to it. It took about an hour to workup the horse and get her going down to surgery. Surgery itself took about 3.5 hrs. She had a strangulating lipoma that we removed but also a torsion of mesentery and some of her intestines weren't viable so we had to resect about 3 feet and reconnect the good parts, or viable pieces of intestine. It wasn't an easy case. She's still not out of the woods either. She took about 1.5 hrs to wakeup and then we had to help her get to her feet. When I left her she was stable but occasionally pawing at the ground: a sign of colic, so hopefully she's not going to colic again. That would be real bad. It's funny that I just finished my 2 weeks of surgery and never had a surgery. Today was my day. I'll transfer her to a surgery student though on Tuesday since I'll be on field service.

My piggy or pinkie toe, whatever it is, sustained the injuries. When I finally got to look at my foot it was about 8 hrs. and 1 colic surgery later. My littlest toe is all red, black and blue and swollen. At least I don't really need that toe so much. Hope it works tomorrow for my long run of ~14 miles.

This awesome, awesome horse just stepped on my foot

If I ever have a horse, I want this one, or one just like him. I was outside with him letting him graze and when it was time to come back in, I had to make him lift his head and stop eating. He was messing with me and pulling back but I got him to turn around and while we were making the turn he stepped on my right foot with his left front and I looked down to see his foot just sitting there on top of mine. After a little bit I got him to move it but then my foot really hurt. Jen asked if I wanted her to take him and I said okay. Then I walked very slowly behind until my foot felt a little better. There's a nice hoof print on my shoe and I'm afraid to look at my toes so we'll see later how it looks.

Last night I couldn't fall asleep

so I looked up stuff on adopting from China. I've always wanted to adopt an Asian baby since I was pretty young. I think my mom had a friend that married an Asian guy and had a baby and I remember playing with the baby when I was in around 6th grade and thinking he was so cute. I remember telling RobReed all the time when we were out and about if I saw an Asian baby, 'Oh, I want that one. I wanna take it.' Stuff like that. Now that I'm older, I could really almost get one. The requirements for single parent adoption aren't much different, at least from what I gathered late last night, you usually have to get on a waiting list though and wait longer. You have to be at least 30 years old, make a certain amount of money which seems pretty low, it's like $10,000 for each spouse and $10,000 for the kid or something like that, so I'd have to make $20,000 and you can't have more than 4 kids already. It can cost quite a bit though so I don't have that money. A social worker would have to come see my place which would be hilarious if I was living in Boston w/ RobReed and Jenn w/ the two dogs, one of the dogs being the type to eat a baby. They also said though they want single parents w/ a higher education level so I have that too. I guess I'll just have to wait a while longer, 5 years or so. Though the waiting process can take at least a year so maybe I'll start earlier to have it by the time I'm 35 or something.
